Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m sure things are getting crazy in your house just like they are in mine! Despite the turkey, the full bellies and the football, the best part about this time of year is time for family and friends. We all get the chance to step back and feel thankful for all that we have. I am so thankful for my clients this week. Whether it was making turkeys or talking about Thanksgiving vocabulary, my kiddos were just the cutest. Everyone was excited to bring home their awesome artwork. Here’s some of what we did this week…

Home Thanksgiving Ideas:

Vocabulary/Articulation. This time of year introduces new words and meanings to children. They learn new foods and a little piece of history. Check out these websites to find Thanksgiving vocabulary with your child’s sound:

Thanksgiving Word Bank

Ask your child to say the Thanksgiving speech word 5 times and then make up a sentence for the new vocabulary word!

Tradition/Past tense verbs. Whether you choose to discuss your own families traditions or history, this is a great opportunity to highlight past tense verbs. For instance, “When I was a little girl, I baked a pie with my grandma every Thanksgiving.” Give your child the correct form of the verb and then have them repeat. Start a new tradition with your child this year! Need some ideas? Check out this adorable blog:

Cooking/Sensory. What’s the best way to entertain your child while you’re busy in the kitchen? Have them help! It’s also a great sensory activity. Allow your child to roll the pie dough or feel a dollop of the mashed potatoes with their finger. Discuss the way each food item feels/tastes. Your child’s palate will be experiencing all new flavors and textures. I love the news clip and website below for an explanation on why cooking is such a multi-sensory and beneficial activity for kids:
